Here is a quick recap of Sunday’s 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup games, including Justin Brownlee’s 46-point masterpiece in a big Ginebra victory.
Brownlee’s 46 powers ginebra
Justin Brownlee led a furious third-quarter charge as Barangay Ginebra cruised past the previously-undefeated Bay Area Dragons, 111-93. Brownlee was unstoppable once again, scoring a game-high 46 points on a very efficient 65% shooting. Jamie Malonzo also had his moments, contributing 17 points and 6 rebounds in the winning effort.
The Gin Kings only held a 50-48 lead after the first half, but they burst right out of the gates in the third quarter with a tremendous play on both ends of the floor. They held the Dragons to just 18 total points in that quarter, while scoring 35 of their own.
Andrew Nicholson put up 28 points in his PBA debut, while all-around guard Glen Yang produced 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. It was Bay Area’s first loss in their first five games.
Stone, San Miguel tally first win
With an aim to bounce back from a frustrating loss in their conference opener, the San Miguel Beermen came away with a 113-105 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. San Miguel import Diamond Stone finished with a game-high 42 markers, including four makes from three-point territory. It was a better outing for Stone, after going 0-of-6 from beyond the arc in their previous loss to the Blackwater Bossing.
It was a tight game throughout the afternoon, with both teams tied at 85 apiece entering the final period. But the Beermen’s offense eventually won out, as they tallied their first win in this import-laden conference. June Mar Fajardo eclipsed the 20-point mark again with his 21 points, while CJ Perez contributed 13 off the bench.
Rain or Shine import Steve Taylor Jr. flirted with a triple-double of 20 points, 18 boards, and 9 assists in the loss. Rey Nambatac finally had a good game this conference, scoring 19 points and grabbing six rebounds.
