The 2021 PBA Philippine Cup’s elimination phase is nearing its end, with some teams already headed for the playoffs and a couple already out of contention.
However, your favorite stars have yet to wrap up their sneaker battle.
Week 6 of the league’s best sneakers featured some new faces trying to make their final push to be crowned as this conference’s “Sneaker King”.
So who made the cut this time? Check out Dribble Media’s list below.
5. Zoom Kobe 4 Protro “Wizenard” (Ryan Reyes, TNT)
The 38-year-old guard may be years removed from his prime, but he’s definitely still at his best when it comes to his shoe game. In his first appearance in our weekly sneaker ranking, “The Energizer” brought some serious vibes, lacing up the Zoom Kobe 4 Protro “Wizenard” against the NorthPort Batang Pier last Wednesday.
The Wizenard silhouette is inspired by the late great Kobe Byrant’s first novel, a best-selling series based around the transformative power of basketball and the intertwining reality and fantasy that had Nike reintroducing the Kobe 4 in a flamboyant and amusing silhouette.
The Kobe 4 Protro “Wizenard” was released in December 2019 and is currently valued at PhP 16,000.
4. Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “PJ Tucker PE” (Mikey Williams, TNT)
For the third straight time, the Tropang Giga super rookie made it to the sneaker ranking after pulling out a Player Exclusive silhouette of the Zoom Kobe 5 Protro from his shoe rack.
In his 29-point outburst against NorthPort last Wednesday, the 29-year-old rookie laced up newly crowned NBA Champ PJ Tucker’s PE colorway of the Kobe 5 Protro.
More than his pesky perimeter defense and deadly corner three-point shots, Tucker is also known as the NBA’s version of the Sneaker King.
With Williams pulling out a Kobe 5 Protro “PJ Tucker PE”, is the electrifying rookie establishing himself as PBA’s version of the Sneaker King?
The Kobe 5 Protro “PJ Tucker PE” was released in September 2020 and is currently valued PhP 30,000.
3. Undefeated X Zoom Kobe 4 Protro “Black Mamba” (Richard Escoto, Blackwater)
The Blackwater Bossing recently recorded the worst losing streak in PBA history with 19 after bowing to the Meralco Bolts last Saturday. Nonetheless, it did not stop the former FEU from winning with his sneakers, as he strutted out with the “Black Mamba” silhouette sneaker.
The iridescent silhouette of the Kobe 4 Protro was a nod to Bryant’s “Black Mamba” moniker, and its collaboration with the famous sneaker store Undefeated made the pair much hyped.
This pair was released in September 2018 and is currently valued at PhP 28,000.
2. Kobe 8 System “Challenge Red” (Jaycee Marcelino, Alaska)
Marcelino made his presence known as he debuted in our weekly sneaker ranking. The former Lyceum cager laced up a fresh Kobe 8 System “Challenge Red” during the Aces’ battle against the Tropang Giga last Saturday.
The oozing red color blocking of the Kobe 8 System is a Georgetown-inspired silhouette and was released in June 2013.
The old but gold Kobe 8 System “Challenge Red” is currently valued at Php35,000.
1. Zoom Kobe 6 “Prelude”( Mikey Williams, TNT)
In our last issue, San Miguel Beermen athletic guard Chris Ross made it to the list twice after lacing up two iconic Air Jordan 14 colorways: the Candy Cane and the Last Shot.
This time, the 2021 4th overall pick brought out two Kobe sneakers for his two appearances on the list. To claim this week’s top spot, Williams laced up an iconic and lucrative Zoom Kobe 6 silhouette, the Prelude, against Alaska last Saturday.
The Kobe 6 “Prelude” commemorates Bryant’s 2011 All-Star MVP award which he won at Los Angeles’ own turf along with the city’s skate culture.
Along with its rich history, the sneaker comes with a hefty price. The Kobe 6 “Prelude” is currently valued at PhP 90,000.
