Nike KD 14 Performance Review

TRACTION

The performance of the Nike KD 14’s traction is undoubtedly comparable to its predecessor. Even though they differ in pattern, the latest has omnidirectional lines throughout the outsole and some oval shapes on the forefoot.

The pair’s rubber outsole gives an aggressive bite and definitely stops on every dime without delays or slides in different directions.

Also, if you are the “the shoe is original if it squeaks” type of player, then the Nike KD 14 is absolutely for you. The traction is so aggressive that it squeaks more often, and maybe a pitch higher compared to other sneakers.

But to clarify, especially to those who are new in the sneaker world and even those who still believe in this myth, the squeak sound is caused by the friction when the outsole rubs against the floor. The sound is normal and has nothing to do with the authenticity of the pair. Besides, even fake or replica pairs can produce these sounds.

Most importantly, the traction performance of the pair does not depend on the squeak. As a proof, there are several sneakers which do not produce much sound on the court, yet their outsoles are aggressive. Just look at the Jordan CP3 IX for reference.

To continue, the outsole compound of the Nike KD 14 is noteworthy. The traction performance is great, no doubt. However, the rubber compound is soft and pliable which makes durability an issue when used outdoors.

Well, today’s sneaker trend relies on the lightweight attribute of the pair. So, unlike the older models of basketball sneakers with thick and very firm outsoles, manufacturers are leaning on infusing thinner materials which sometimes affect the durability.

Nonetheless, the outsole can definitely last longer when only used indoors. But if you are fond of playing on blacktops, you may consider buying Nike KD 14 with XDR outsoles.
