Dragons get perfect week behind Powell’s heroics

When in doubt, put the ball in the hands of your best player. The Bay Area Dragons did just that as they carved out a thrilling 105-104 victory over the NorthPort Batang Pier. Myles Powell, who came off a 41-point outing in their first game against the Blackwater Bossing, delivered 37 big points, including the game-winner against the outstretched arms of NorthPort import Prince Ibeh.

Powell started out relatively slow, as he only had nine markers in the first half. But he came out firing in the last two quarters, producing 28 points to tow the Dragons to their second victory in as many games. Hayden Blankley contributed a double-double night of 15 points and 10 assists in the win.

Robert Bolick paced the Batang Pier with his 33 markers, while Arvin Tolentino had himself another tremendous showing of 22 points, 10 boards, and 3 steals. NorthPort was trailing by two, 102-100, with a little below a minute remaining the game but they seized control with back-to-back baskets from Bolick and Roi Sumang. However, they failed to put the icing on the cake, and Powell took advantage with a buzzer-beating step-back three-pointer.

Blackwater nets first win at Phoenix’s expense

The Blackwater Bossing pulled away late in the second half to take a 97-85 win over the Phoenix Super LPG. Baser Amer led the charge for Blackwater with his 24 points, while import Cameron Krutwig poured in an all-around effort of 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists.

It was a balanced effort for the Bossing, as they had four other players scoring in double digits, with newly-acquired forward Troy Rosario and combo wing Rey Suerte netting 15 markers apiece, Rashawn McCarthy contributing 12, and Gab Banal tallying 10.

Kaleb Wesson paced Phoenix with his impressive 28-point, 26-rebound outing. Phoenix goes winless in their first two games, while Blackwater tallies a 1-1 record to start the conference.
